Director, Marseille Centre for Mediterranean Integration
Mats Karlsson has been engaged in international development and integration since 1983. After holding positions in the Swedish administration, politics and government, he joined the World Bank in 1999, where he has been focusing on global governance, African development, and currently Maghreb development and Mediterranean cooperation.
He is Director of the Centre for Mediterranean Integration in Marseille. He has published four books on the transformation and integration of Central and Eastern Europe. As State Secretary in 1994-99, he focused on Sweden's response to European integration. He has frequently participated at the Forum 2000, an international dialogue presided over by former President Vaclav Havel.
